A repair on the island still runs on the Town’s hours and permits. Philip has worked on the island every day for about 25 years.

    Season hours

    November 1 to April 30: weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., no site noise before 9, nothing on weekends or holidays.

    No construction December 24 through January 1, or on the days before and after Thanksgiving.

    Small permits

    Work that needs a permit goes through the Town’s building department. A minor permit must pass its final inspection within 12 months.

    Parking

    Workers’ vehicles park on the site or under a Town parking permit. Each parking, noise or hours violation is a strike, and three stop the job.

From May 1 to October 31, 2026, quiet interior work only, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From November 1 to April 30, no work on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Does a repair need a permit?

Many do, and on the island the permit comes from the Town of Palm Beach building department. The application needs the owner’s notarized signature. Diane runs the permits in his office.
